NetPilot

NetPilot Open Source Contributions

containerlab is the engine under NetPilot labs, and the NetPilot team sends work back upstream.

Each item below is merged in srl-labs/containerlab and links to its pull request.

Merged in containerlab

mikrotik_chr kind

New node kind

Runs MikroTik RouterOS CHR from the official mikrotik/chr image, unmodified, on amd64 and arm64, with or without KVM. Management is transparent: the node's management address is RouterOS's own ether1 address, so SSH, REST, Winbox, the API, SNMP and LLDP reach the router directly.

Merged 2026-10-22. Released in containerlab v0.82.0.

vr_ftosv interface alias

Dell OS10 kind fix

Topology links for the Dell OS10 kind can use the interface names as OS10 prints them, such as ethernet1/1/1, and the deploy error now names the accepted forms instead of an empty pattern. It fixes containerlab issue #3352, which came out of bringing OS10 onto NetPilot.

Merged 2026-08-25. Released in containerlab v0.80.0.

Community page entry

Documentation

Adds our write-up of the lessons from running a multi-vendor lineup on containerlab to the project's community page: image naming, readiness checks, interface aliases, first-boot dialogs and per-kind resources.

Merged 2026-08-25. Live on containerlab.dev.

How NetPilot Uses containerlab

NetPilot is a containerlab integrator. A lab the agent builds on a lab VM is a containerlab topology, deployed by containerlab with real network OSes. NetPilot adds the hosting and the AI agent, and engineers verify the result on the real CLI.

Frequently Asked Questions

NetPilot and the containerlab project

Yes. The NetPilot team has three merged pull requests in srl-labs/containerlab, including the mikrotik_chr kind that shipped in v0.82.0 and an interface alias fix for the Dell OS10 kind.
containerlab is the engine under NetPilot labs. When a network OS we bring onto it needs a new kind or a fix, sending that work upstream means every containerlab user gets it, not only NetPilot users.
containerlab is an independent open source project in the srl-labs GitHub organization, released under the BSD 3-Clause license and led by its own maintainers. NetPilot is a contributor and integrator of the project.

Describe the network. The agent writes the YAML and the configs, deploys, and you verify on the real CLI.
